Choose G5 Turret Ultra when UniFi Protect is the recorder and management platform you actually want. It is a compact 2K PoE camera with a tightly integrated local ecosystem, but it is not the simplest purchase for a direct OmniNVR installation: any third-party stream path should be verified from the current Protect configuration and the specific deployed firmware before buying around it.

This is a research-based buying assessment, not a lab test performed by OmniNVR. It separates current manufacturer documentation from the linked reviewer coverage, then treats a successful live stream and recorded timeline on the buyer's own network as the final compatibility test.

What the current product documentation establishes

Ubiquiti's technical specification page identifies G5 Turret Ultra as a 2K / 4 MP PoE camera in the UniFi Protect product range. UniFi's own documentation emphasises Protect as the management architecture and separately documents the adoption of third-party ONVIF cameras into Protect, which is the opposite direction from assuming every UniFi camera is an open direct-input camera.

Specifications describe the product family and available options; they do not prove that a particular firmware, regional SKU, network, or third-party recorder will behave identically. Confirm the full model code before ordering and retain the current manual with the camera inventory.
